Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers?
Anti-wrinkle injections are used to reduce wrinkles by freezing the muscle movement, while dermal fillers “fill in” or plump areas that have lost volume and smoothness.

How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers work by enhancing the skin’s hydration & improving skin’s hyaluronic acid. This adds volume to the skin, instantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers provide an instantaneous result by filling the injection site. The amount of filling or lift is determined by which type of filler is used and how much product is used. The results continue to improve as the product draws in moisture over the first 1-2 weeks following treatment.

How long will the treatment last?
The results last between 6-18 months depending on the type of filler used and the area treated.

I get cold sores, can I have lip fillers?
Yes you can, but it is advisable to have 3 days of anti-viral suppressive therapy prior to having lip filler to avoid risk fo cold sore outbreak.

Is the procedure painful?
Any injectable procedure is associated with some discomfort. Lip area is more sensitive and can be more painful. We can numb your area by applying numbing cream prior to the procedure.

Is there any downtime after the procedure?
After a treatment some reactions might occur. Most common reaction is slight redness, bruising, pain swelling, itching and tenderness. Most of the reactions are mild usually disappear within few hours to few days. But sometimes the bruising may take 2-3 weeks to resolve. So be mindful of any major events when planning your dermal fillers.

Do I need to stop my medication prior to my filler treatment?
Patients on blood thinning medications should be aware that they will develop a higher degree of bruising. We don’t recommend stopping those but is advisable to have that day’s dose after the treatment. Fish oil tablets should not be taken 1 week before having your treatment.

Can dermal fillers be done in pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Dermal fillers have not been tried in pregnancy and breastfeeding and are not recommended during such states.
